Our five year journey of filming has now come to an end - we are ready to reveal what we uncovered... this journey fundamentally changed the way we view educational institutions and question the blind trust we place in those who work in and around their confines.

After interviewing survivors, family members, experts and witnesses, multiple attorneys representing victims of sexual abuse came forward to speak on record with us about some of their cases. Seasoned professionals stunned by the cover-ups, inaction and stonewalling they experienced from the New Hanover County School District.

Attorney, Faith Fox of the Cochran Law Offices in Charlotte, (herself a mother), was staggered by one of her clients allegations and the school's solution to it:

We are a small team of dedicated filmmakers from around the United States. We were invited into New Hanover County by local residents to investigate allegations of corruption and intimidation that date back decades, leaving families traumatized.

Film has the power to change the world. Meet some of New Hanover County's courageous residents, elected officials, teachers, parents, journalists and historians along with global experts who contributed to our film’s narrative, as they relay their own stories and try to make sense of what happened.

Hello, my name is Kerry David, and I started on what became this shocking journey, five years ago. It has fundamentally changed the way I view our educational institutions and trust in those who work in and around their confines. We believe it will change yours too.

Open Secret reveals what happens when powerful people collude to control victims and their loved ones through a culture of silence and fear. Deny and cover-up allegations of sexual abuse and discrimination, employ acts of retaliation and intimidation to control the narrative, all of which enabled them to keep their "Open Secret" - FOR DECADES.

We follow a handful of New Hanover County residents as they unite to challenge these powerful, corrupt systems, and reveal those who enabled multiple predators to permeate their school district for generations. It's an inspirational journey of courage - and a community rising - over a five year period.

I feel humbled and privileged to have documented those in the community who were courageous enough to risk all, seeking justice and accountability, all in the service of saving these and future children from further harm.
