CURRENT FUNDING GOAL:

• $30k Match = $60k! We have a generous donor matching the next $30k we raise dollar-for-dollar (til Aug 7th, 2026). If we meet the $30k match, we will have $60k to put toward our film! $30k of this will help us keep the 2 full-time editors we hired in June (thanks to the $45k we raised!) through October to finish editing the first act of our rough cut. Additional funds will help us get ready to film this fall, especially if MDMA is rescheduled...

STRETCH GOALS & BUDGET:

Our remaining budget is about $1.5M* and breaks down as follows:

• $150k: edit the entire rough cut (6 months of 2 full time editors cutting act 2 & 3 by April 2027)
• $475k: film final Interviews, B-roll & animation
• $250k: final animation, VFX and archival licensing
• $225k: music licensing & score
• $200k: final edit, color and sound mix
• $225k: legal, admin & festivals

* Our film's total budget is $3.4M, of which our production has already raised & invested $1.8M (covering ongoing production since 2014). SYNOPSIS

WHAT A TRIP follows Rick Doblin, the colorful founder of MAPS, on his 50+ year quest to legalize psychedelics. Starting with a xeroxed newsletter in 1986, Rick builds MAPS into a non-profit that, against-all-odds raises over $200 million for groundbreaking psychedelic research; navigating FDA trials, cultural stigma, and capitalism to help transform psychedelic science from a fringe counterculture crusade into a bipartisan, mainstream movement. Filmmaker Nirvan Mullick intimately documents Rick's journey for over a decade, despite never having tried psychedelics himself. But just as Rick's dream of legalizing MDMA therapy seems within reach... everything starts to fall apart.
