ONE PERSON CRYING: WOMEN AND WAR
Donate and support women war survivors through three interconnected projects that highlight their plight and enduring resilience.
One Person Crying: Women and War, a global photographic project initiated by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Marissa Roth in 1984, spans 38 years of her photography addressing how women in numerous countries and cultures have been directly impacted by war and its aftermath. An international travelling exhibition of these photographs debuted at The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles in 2012. A book of this work is forthcoming.
A 10-episode documentary series based on this project, The Peace Photographer, is currently being developed, as is a supporting project that aims to bring together women who survived war, thereby establishing a community of these women from around the world.
This trilogy of interconnected initiatives supports Roth’s early and on-going commitment to this subject, which was inspired by her own family's war history and born out of her recognition that the women’s side of the war story was an underreported perspective on war. She feels that this continues to be an important, timely and very relevant subject and believes that through the telling and re-telling of stories through her compelling photographs and first-person interviews with these survivors, that it will engender more awareness.
Supporting Creative Visions Foundation enables the continuation of their mission statement to inspire positive change through storytelling. This is also the fundamental basis that compelled Marissa Roth to create One Person Crying: Women and War.
