COMMITTEE ANIMAL - a short film by Robert Redfield

COMMITTEE ANIMAL is a short narrative film that takes a look at what we animal lovers have often pondered: Why do some of today's wonderfully weird animals look like they were designed by a committee? Think penguins, platypuses, kangaroos, armadillos, giraffes. When looked at as the sum of individual parts, these animals are simply bizarre.

Instead of evolutionary science, maybe we DO have a committee to thank. In our reimagined world, these animals were created by a ragtag team of over-worked and under-appreciated designers facing bureaucratic red tape, an impossible deadline, and supply chain issues.

The animal kingdom will never be the same again.

COMMITTEE ANIMAL strives to both entertain and inform.

Positioned as a complement to more serious media and documentaries addressing the myriad of threats to animals throughout the world, this film presents a light-hearted approach to directing the audience’s attention to the same issues.

By shining a fun spotlight on the wonderful diversity of mammals, we hope to reawaken the audience’s curiosity and appreciation for the land animals so often taken for granted.

Robert Redfield is a filmmaker based in Santa Barbara, CA and has written and directed several short documentaries focused on the arts, homelessness and personal journeys. His latest project, the feature length documentary film More Than Just A Party Band, is currently screening at film festivals and will stream in early 2025.

COMMITTEE ANIMAL is his first short narrative film and he's never had more fun than writing this screenplay and creating the world he hopes you will help make come alive.

Robert is a father to three grown children and lives in Santa Barbara, CA with his wife and favorite neighborhood squirrel Rocky.
