HI! We’re team S&M. We create R-rated comedy nostalgia, and Step-Friend fits that brand like 90’s denim. This episodic proof of concept is a subversive modern-day take on the 90’s sitcoms we grew up on. We aim to answer the question, what if your BEST FRIEND was meant to be FAMILY?

It’s been a year since Scout has returned to her childhood home, and for good reason. Her college best friend, Darby, MARRIED her dad, Vince. When Vince is up for a big promotion and must host a FAMILY DINNER, for his boss. Darby tricks Scout into returning home to prove the Matthews have family values. Scout’s irritation with Darby is overshadowed by how much her return means to her dad. Scout agrees to help Darby host the dinner but with a CATCH. Darby must play the role of MAID to appease Vince’s traditional boss and a meal of wacky antics is served.

This isn’t your average multicam. For starters, it’s a SINGLE CAM! While it resembles old favorites, Step-Friend is elevated. The “studio audience” element is its own character within Step-Friend and pushes Scout to reunite with Darby and Vince. After all, the key ingredient to a successful sitcom is a HAPPY FAMILY!

Meet our amazing cast!

The multicam sitcom has yet to be re-invented in a truly modern way, delivering the comfort of YESTERDAY alongside the edgy comedy of TODAY. With shows like Kevin Can Fuck Himself and Wandavision we got a taste of winking at the format, but we want the whole dessert! There is room amongst the reboots, for an original nostalgic sitcom. Studio produced comedies may be shrinking but in this world of chaos we need to LAUGH.

The tone of Step-Friend, with the studio audience interactions and not-so-subtle nods to the sitcoms that shaped us, needs to be seen to be sold. As multi-hyphenates, we need to leave no doubt in buyers' minds that WE are the ONLY actresses to play the leading roles. Like the TV casting of the past, we want to introduce ourselves as comedic newcomers and showcase our very specific friendship.

We intend on using Step-Friend as a proof of concept to help sell the 1/2 hour tv show. We have experience doing this. We have partnered with: Sony, Cobra Kai's Counterbalance Entertainment, and attached show runners, Danielle Schneider & Dannah Phirman, on another 1/2 hour comedy based on of a proof of concept.
