EPILEPSY THE FILM | AN EPILEPSY FILM
This isn't just a film, it's a call to action. Join us as we make Epilepsy a global conversation.
Plot summary: After surviving a deadly seizure, a Director with Epilepsy initiates a global mission: to unite families, doctors, and foundations in search of a cure.
1 in 26 people in the United States alone will develop Epilepsy in their lifetime.
65 million people worldwide are diagnosed with Epilepsy.
Sudden death rates among people with Epilepsy are 20x higher than the general population.
Epilepsy is one of the most COMMON neurological disorders in the world. Yet there are no feature length documentaries on Epilepsy that have been made at this scale. As a filmmaker with this condition, I want this to change.
I've had Epilepsy for 15 years, a condition that drastically altered my life.
At 9, a deadly status epilepticus seizure brought me to the brink of life and death. Despite being told I'd outgrow them at 14, a subsequent week of three seizures confirmed a lifelong diagnosis. Through my journey, I discovered a lack of discussion about Epilepsy and SUDEP in both healthcare and the mainstream media. As a full-time professional in the film industry, I'm determined to raise awareness and spark a global conversation. My story will be the through-line in this documentary as we weave together the voices of other epilepsy warriors, their families, doctors, and foundations.
The artistic approach for this film will capture the essence of life impacted by Epilepsy.
Embracing a deeply cinematic approach, the film weaves together archival footage, day-in-the-life b-roll, medical sequences, impactful scenes featuring Epilepsy and SUDEP foundations, and more. This approach not only aims to foster empathy for these families but also to inspire the audience to actively contribute and make a difference. By capturing the personal stories of those impacted by Epilepsy, we hope to make our cause relatable and tangible.
