The Sundance Kid's Fundraiser
Back a Groundbreaking Short Documentary by a Latinx Filmmaker Shaped at the Sundance Film Festival
Support post-production and the festival run to amplify this story and inspire filmmakers and audiences. Help me reach new viewers and make a lasting impact.
This short film is my most personal work to date. The Sundance Kid explores the emotional toll of storytelling, particularly within true crime, and the challenges of carrying trauma while approaching these stories with care. After spending a decade behind the scenes at the Sundance Film Festival, absorbing lessons from some of the most influential independent filmmakers, this project became both a tribute to my hometown of Park City and a reflection of my journey as a filmmaker.
Filmed entirely on my iPhones over the years, the project embraces an intimate and honest aesthetic. As a certified mental health coordinator, I bring a trauma-informed perspective to this work, honoring the needs of those telling the story, the audience, and all filmmakers alike.
This film matters because it challenges a genre that has often silenced voices like mine. It seeks to reshape how we tell and engage with true crime, shining a light on the emotional weight of telling difficult truths.
