Join CREATIVE VISIONS FOUNDATION to support Oloirien: a Maasai Community Project

A week before the pandemic, I discovered a tree in the Maasai Mara that could prevent COVID-19. Guided by a Maasai ethnobotanist, I realized these plants hold the chemistry we may all need for future health challenges.

Back in the U.S., in isolation, I continued working with Lenkuna Kibele and Maasai Plant Medicine Healers. Together, we created a light-hearted children’s storybook with enchanted animals exploring medicinal plants — delivered on a free digital platform with film, audio, plant keys, and my safari journal.

From this journey came a bigger vision: the Maasai themselves need to tell these stories, protect their Traditional Intellectual Property, and share their knowledge. That’s how OLOIRIEN was born.

OLOIRIEN is a Maasai-led project documenting indigenous medicinal knowledge. We aim to create the first Maasai Materia Medica — digital books and online resources in Maa, Swahili, and English — teaching, inspiring, and protecting both the plants and the people who care for them.

Your support will help us buy essential equipment: desktop computers, tablets, phones, a solar generator, and data plans for Maasai ethnobotanists to capture, document, and publish this vital knowledge.
