Our Story

I never set out to start a nonprofit. I simply sent a gift. What happened next was more powerful than anything I could have imagined. I’m Ashley, a mom of two and founder of Coral & Blue Paper Co., a small children’s stationery company in the United States.

When I sent a box of stationery to my friend Maurice, a Sunday school teacher in Burundi, Africa, I had no idea that simple gift would grow into a countrywide writing and art program supporting healing from trauma. That is how The Coral & Blue Mission began.

Our Mission

In Burundi, one of the world’s poorest countries, many families live in constant survival mode, struggling to meet their daily needs. Trauma happens everywhere, including here in the United States. Many of us know how hard it is to imagine tomorrow when getting through today takes everything.

Rooted in faith, we give children and women a chance to pause, dream, and take steps toward healing. Our trained teachers help them write and draw their gratitude, worries, hopes, dreams, and goals. They share their letters aloud, feel heard, and discover they are not alone.

Putting a dream on paper gives it a beginning—and creates space to imagine a future beyond survival.

Your donation supports writing and art programs, games and soccer, and practical necessities: school supplies, desks, chairs, backpacks, uniforms, clothing, food, toys, and hygiene essentials. We are also working toward building a school.
