Help Our Film "STICKY" Change Lives

STICKY is a dramatic feature film about Kimani, 13, a bright Kenyan boy who must join a gang of "Chokora" (street kids) in order to survive on Nairobi's mean streets. But the life of petty crime and glue-sniffing threatens to derail his dream of one day becoming a pilot and escaping a life of poverty. It's an uplifting story of hope and redemption which will shed light on the lives of children who live in the shadows and must do anything to survive. Winner of the 2016 Cinestory Award for Best Screenplay and supported by the Film Independent Directors Lab and a SFFilmHouse Residency, STICKY has been a passion project and labor of love of mine for the past thirteen years.

I genuinely believe that a film like this will make life better for the street kids of Nairobi and beyond. In Swahili, they are called chokora, meaning “trash,” and treated harshly by the more well-to-do citizens of this now thriving metropolis. But I believe a story like STICKY can and will generate compassion and understanding for these young underdogs, who live in the shadows but have hopes, dreams, and value like anyone else.

The film will also raise awareness of the epidemic of glue addiction affecting young people in abject poverty around the world and could spark a movement to regulate and prohibit the sale of brain-damaging glue to children.

I feel so determined to make this film that I am self-financing 50% of the total budget, with the hope that others who see this film's potential will join me in helping make the best film possible.
