I'm excited to share that WHAT WE CARRY: Effigies for the Weight of Humanity has been accepted for fiscal sponsorship through Creative Visions.

THE VISION

WHAT DO WE CARRY?

Some burdens are visible. Others remain hidden beneath routines, institutions, expectations, and daily life. They
accumulate quietly: grief, uncertainty,
responsibility, information overload,
fear, hope, obligation, and the countless
pressures of living within complex social systems.

WHAT WE CARRY: Effigies for the Weight of Humanity is an immersive art project that transforms these invisible conditions into physical encounters. Through symbolic effigies, sculptural installations, written dispatches, and participatory experiences, the project explores the emotional, political, and cultural forces that shape contemporary life.

By giving form to what is often unseen,
the project invites reflection on the systems
we inherit, sustain, resist, and carry together.

THE EXHIBITION

At the center of the project is a growing
collection of symbolic effigies, human-scale
figures representing conditions, systems,
and roles that have become familiar parts
of modern life.

These figures emerge from an ongoing
process of writing, sketching, material
research, and fabrication development.

The exhibition will combine:

  • Life-size symbolic effigies
  • Sculptural installations
  • Written dispatches
  • Environmental storytelling
  • Interactive audience participation
  • Opportunities for reflection and dialogue

Rather than presenting answers, the
exhibition invites visitors to move through
a landscape of questions:

What is carried?
Who carries it?
Why do some burdens remain invisible?
What happens when they can no longer be ignored?

WHY NOW

We live in an era shaped by constant information, institutional distrust, shifting language, social fragmentation, and unprecedented global interconnectedness.

The systems influencing our lives have become increasingly difficult to see and increasingly difficult to escape.

Through political satire, emotional commentary, symbolic storytelling, and immersive installation, WHAT WE CARRY
examines how these forces become internalized and how collective conditions become personal burdens.

FIGURES IN FORMATION

The exhibition currently includes four symbolic figures in development:

The Executive of Soft Power
The Custodian of Paperwork
The Keeper of Breaking News
The Bearer of Passage

Together, these figures from an evolving
narrative system exploring power, bureaucracy,
information, responsibility, and collective experience.

MATERIAL STUDIES

The physical language of the exhibition
is being developed through ongoing
material exploration.

Concrete, rope, paper, textiles, metal, wire, wood, and archival materials are being investigated for their symbolic and emotional resonance within the work.

Each material contributes to a larger
visual language of weight, endurance,
memory, bureaucracy, burden, and
resilience.
