I remember sitting at my grandmother's feet as a child, listening to stories that felt older than the hills around us— proverbs, songs, the names of ancestors who had walked the same soil generations before me. Those evenings felt eternal, like nothing could ever break that thread.

But Rwanda has known ruptures that no child should have to inherit — moments when an entire generation's link to its elders, its classrooms, its ceremonies, was violently severed. I grew up in the after: fragments of stories, half-remembered songs, elders who carried more silence than words. I felt the absence before I understood it — a hunger for a heritage that should have been mine by birthright, but instead had to be pieced back together.

That hunger is what frightens me most for the children coming after us. A generation raised on borrowed stories, scrolling through cultures far removed from their own, risks growing up present in Rwanda but not truly of it. Values pass down through elders and stories, not textbooks alone — break that chain twice, and it may never mend.

XR-Wanda Cultural Metaverse Archive exists so that doesn't happen again. We are gathering what our elders still remember — their ceremonies, their proverbs, their history — and putting it in the hands of Rwandan animators, illustrators, and storytellers to carry forward, so no child has to grow up wondering where they truly belong.
